Kaytwo Scales Kempton

Kaytwo Scales Kempton

Kaytwo made a lovely winning debut appearance at Kempton in mid-August under an astute pillar to post ride from Silvestre De Sousa.  Having been purchased from Book 2 of the Goffs Orby Sale by Gary Bloodstock, the consensus was that he would be an early type of two year old.  Unfortunately, due to a small setback at the beginning of this year, his preparation had to be put on hold.  However, I believe these things happen for a reason and it was ultimately in the best interests of the horse to be given the time he needed.

Kaytwo was subsequently prepped in Ireland by Gary Bloodstock who did a wonderful job of getting this horse pretty much ready to run prior to arriving at Southgate Stables in mid-June.  It was apparent from his first piece of work on the Newmarket Gallops that he had plenty of natural ability with a huge stride that enables him to galvanise other horses with ease.

We decided to start him in the restricted newcomers maiden at Kempton which was for horses that had never run.  Allocated a wide draw, he jumped awkwardly to the left leaving him out wide of the rest of the field, however, Silv let him find his feet and settle into the race pace before gradually tracking over to the rail with a healthy two length advantage.  Coming into the straight, the rest of the field appeared to be bearing down on him, but Kaytwo used his huge stride to his advantage and, once Silvestre asked him to quicken, he was always able to keep them at bay to hold on by head.

Kaytwo will now head to the Tattersalls September Sale as an unbeaten two year old.  Sadly, this is something that we are reluctantly having to do in the current British horseracing financial market.  In a recent Racing Post article regarding the effects on the practically unchanged 2025 Fixture List, I spoke about how our hands are being forced into selling our better horses for our businesses to survive.
