Mamalouka The IV

Mamalouka The IV

What can be said about Mamalouka (D MacAuliffe, A Don & Friend) that we haven’t already said.  I think it might be safe to say that at the turn of the year we did not anticipate her being a four time winner by the end of March. Yet, come the 23rd March at Wolverhampton she made her fourth trip to the winners enclosure.

Stepping up three furlongs from her previous win she was more than going into the unknown, however, the one thing we were certain of is her staying power.  The race turned into a steady affair with the leader setting slow fractions up until the last three furlongs where it turned into a sprint.  This caught Mamalouka flat footed coming round the home turn where she also swung wide and lost valuable ground.  However, her regular partner Kieran Shoemark took the time to galvanise her until she gradually wore the long time leader down to score back in hand by half a length.

This win was her third in March which put her joint top of the Arc £1 Million All Weather Bonus table, giving her owners a share of the monthly spoils.  As you can imagine, after a busy few months we made the decision to give Mamalouka a well earned rest and she is now enjoying a good month out a grass at Martley Hall Stud.
