Miss Cantik Conquers King Richard
The enigmatic Miss Cantik (Haven’t A Pot, D MacAuliffe & A Don) made a winning reappearance at Leicester at the end of April in the King Richard III Cup Class 2 Handicap and, as per the usual family trait, she did it in a bold front running fashion. Drawn in the middle, she jumped smartly and soon found herself leading the pack under Fred Larson. Fred, having ridden her half brother Pride Of America to win the John Smith Cup at York last year, knows how to ride the siblings and was happy to let the filly bowl along in front. Clocking average speeds of 37mph, by the home turn Miss Cantik had built up a healthy advantage over the rest of the field. By the two marker, Fred made the decisive move to kick for home just as the petrol tank was starting to empty. Thankfully, as with her brother, Miss Cantik has one very high cruising speed and this was enough to see her through to the winning line even though the rest of the field were closing at a rate of knots.
The aim for Miss Cantik this season is to upgrade her placed Black Type to winning Black Type whether that be a Listed or Group level. There are a number of options available for her over the next month but, at the end of the day, as with everything she does, Miss Cantik will dictate where best to run.
