Red Hot Darling Sizzles in France

The mighty Hot Darling (D MacAuliffe, A Don & D De Souza) has proved to be a remarkable success for the team at Southgate Stables by winning her only two starts both of which were in France.  Purchased as a yearling from the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sales she quickly became a firm favourite with her loveable nature in the yard and tenacious attitude at exercise.

Hot Darling has always been one of our most forward two year olds this in her work at home so we naturally felt that finding an easy race in France would be the ideal place to start her.  Her first start was in the Prix du Mont de Po at Chantilly at the end of April and, drawn six of seven runners, Mickael Barzalona was able to find some cover despite her jumping smartly from the gates.  She was then able to track the pace in the race before making her winning move at the two pole along with the runner up Rarified who was never able to fully close in on our filly.

Hot Darling then made the long journey to Vichy for the Listed Haras de Beaumont – Prix des Reves d’Or, a race that we have had previous success in with Manhattan Jungle. Again, drawn wide of the field, the strong early pace played to her advantage as she can produce a sustained turn of foot whereas the rest of field who, admittedly came off the bridle after her, were ultimately unable to sustain their speed.  In the end it was a comfortable success as Mickael was able to drop his hands and take a cheeky glance over his shoulder as they approached the winning post.

Hot Darling is an exciting prospect for future and there is improvement still to come.  She is now being offered in an online pop up sale with Tattersalls and comes with a pedigree page full of Black Type.  She is by first season sire, Two Darn Hot out of the mare Boater, who was placed in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York.  Boater is also a half sister to dam of Metropolitan – winner of the Poule d’Essai de Poulains and who is a live contender for the St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.  She will be sold holding entries in the Group 3 Prix du Bois Longines at Chantilly on Prix Diane Day and the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
