The Rock Hunts Them Down

Rock Hunter made his racecourse debut at Chantilly in the Prix Premier Pas on April 4th, a race we had previously won with Manhattan Jungle back in 2022.  Being a half brother to Geologist , we have always hoped that he would be as good as his big sister so we set off to France with a mixture of nerves and excitement.

Drawn three off the rail, Tony Piccone had Rock Hunter out of the stalls quickly and over on to the rails within a matter of strides. He then sat in behind the leaders for the first three furlongs before a gap opened up on the rail allowing Tony to make his move. From here on in it was plain sailing as Rock Hunter quickened past the rest of the field to go on to score by an easy three lengths.

Rock Hunter was purchased at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale by Lemos De Souza purely based on him being out of Parknasilla which, as mentioned before, makes him a half brother to Geologist.  Daniel MacAuliffe and Anoj Don were quick off the mark to take 50% ownership of the yearling with dreams of Royal Ascot very much at the forefront of their minds. Since winning in Chantilly, Rock Hunter recently ran at Ascot in the Royal Ascot 2 Year Old Trial EBF Conditions Stakes where he finished a gallant second to Enchanting Empress.  Bearing in mind the winner was getting the 5lbs fillies allowance, we more than happy with his performance given that if they had run on level weights the outcome would most certainly have been very different.
