Three Times a Lady
Mamalouka (D MacAuliffe, A Don & Friend) continues to fly the flag for Southgate Stables as she scored for the second time in nine days and for the third time in 2024. Although it has been a long time coming, she is now continually gaining confidence within herself as she progresses with each race. Again, this can be attributed to the wind surgery that we have mentioned in previous updates.
It is particularly nice to see how she travels through her races in a relaxed and flowing rhythm. Kieran Shoemark seems to have struck up a rapport with the filly and, although she was drawn 10 from 11, she broke well enough to be sat in behind the leader at the first turn. Kieran was happy to let her bowl along before pressing the “Go” button coming round the home turn. Mamalouka’s move was quick and decisive, sealing the race in a matter of strides to win by 3 lengths eased up.
This win also puts her in contention for the ARC All-Weather Bonus. She currently sits in joint sixth just four points off the leaders and, although the handicapper saw fit to raise her rating mark by 8lbs, we are hopeful that there is still a bit more to come from our grey lady.
